How was it made?
Step 1:
Understanding our audience
First, we learn about the problems that have been faced by our clients, as well as other disabilities they may have before preparing the game.
Step 2:
Brainstorming / Ideation
Then, once I have understood our clients. I will then brainstorm an idea using photoshop, whiteboard, or any materials that I can find to draft, draw or prototype the idea allowing my imagination to run amok. This allows me to record down ideas that I have and bring out potential concepts that can be used later in the game development.
Step 3:
Prototyping Reality
Map Tile: Elderlies will be using this to build the map, and move their game pieces.
Food items: Elderlies will have to collect these items on the board.
Character Pieces: Elderlies will be using these characters to help them navigate their way on the board, toward the food items.
Shopping List: Elderlies will be using these to keep track of the food item they need to collect or already collected.
Here is the very first prototype made!
This took over a period of 2 weeks to prepare the board game set using A4 size papers and character pieces from other board games to test the playability of the game for dementia elderlies.
Step 4:
Playtesting and Feedback
This is a short gameplay that I had done with my group of friends.
Due to Covid-19, I was unable to work with my key target audience, hence I talked to student nurses who had worked with dementia patient elderlies.
Feedback Recieved
